Mulberry (Morus) There are several varieties of mulberrys. They are rich in nutrients and are also used as animal and poultry feed as well as in the treatment of some diseases. Raw mulberries are 88% water, 10% carbohydrates, 1% protein, and less than 1% fat. In a 100-gram (3.5-ounce) reference amount, raw mulberries provide 43 calories, 44% of the Daily Value (DV) for vitamin C, and 14% of the DV for iron; other micronutrients are insignificant in quantity. They are a good substitute for blackberrys and offer two crops per year. Mulberries are used in pies, tarts, wines, cordials, and herbal teas.[2][6] Jams and sherbets are often made from the fruit. In spring, new tender twigs are semisweet and can be eaten raw or cooked. The plant likes hot climate and moist soil and prefers soil rich in nitrogen though it will grow in almost any type of soil.
